Piracy off the coast of Somalia
- Somali pirates hijack a United Arab Emirates-owned oil tanker off the northern coast of Somalia. Eight Sri Lankan crew members were reportedly aboard. (The Independent)
An American and a Swedish UN official are among six people kidnapped near the village of Ngombe in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Kasaï-Central province Monday. Congolese officials have not identified the kidnappers nor has any group claimed responsibility. (AP)
